Session 1 May 29 to July 6: First 6 weeks

Technology for Teachers  (Online Course)

The Internet has made great technological advances in the past several years that has enabled teachers to integrate free web technologies into the curriculum.  The online version of "Technology for Teachers" is an introductory course that explores new online technologies that are available through the Internet.  Students will explore outstanding web sites that enhance student learning; examine resources for online publishing, communication, and collaboration in the classroom; use online tools that enable teachers and students to create online products; download free and trial software that has educational applications for the classroom; and explore the various free online services that Google offers for educators.  Some of the other topics are online lesson planners, gradebooks, activity sheets, puzzles, games, test generators, graphic organizers, and rubric generators; free home pages for teachers; online global classrooms; online student projects; web multimedia; graphic editors; file converters; web research tools; wikis, blogs, and podcasts; and products such as Kidspiration® and Inspiration®; OpenOffice®; and Google® Earth, Sketchup, Picasso, and Blogger.

 

Internet for Teachers (Campus Course)

"Internet for Teachers" is a 3-credit graduate course for preservice and inservice teachers who would like to explore the latest web resources and materials for integrating the Internet into their curriculum.  Participants will be encouraged to customize the information from this course to create practical student-centered activities appropriate for their respective subject area and grade level.  Some of the topics are the art and science of searching, virtual field trips, Webquests, web site evaluation, collaboration and communication on the web, multimedia on the web, online tools, Internet issues, online simulations, web portfolios, and web page construction.  Students in this campus-based course will buy their own domains and create web portfolios of their projects.

 

 

Session 3 July 9 to August 17: Second  6 weeks
 

eLearning Applications for Teaching and Learning Environments (Online Course)

Course Description:
This is an online course that provides an overview of distance education as implemented over the web.  Students will explore and experience the latest web-based and online instructional delivery systems and be given the opportunity to create their own eLearning lessons.  Consideration will be given to challenges faced by both students and teachers in the delivery of instruction at a distance in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. A focus will be placed on comparing the similarities and differences between the traditional and online classroom.  The advantages and disadvantages of the various types of eLearning systems will be compared. Students will communicate with the instructor and other classmates via e-mail, threaded discussion boards, and scheduled online chat sessions. After completing this course, students will be able to design, plan, and teach eLearning lessons for their classrooms that utilize various forms of technology.
